Roman Mansion
In Skala were found, during excavations of the archeologist B. Kallipopiti in 1957, ruins of a Roman villa which belonged to a prosperous Roman. The villa consists of four rooms all of which have wonderful floor mosaics from the 3rd century AD. In one of the rooms the mosaic represents envy, the picture is of a young man who is being eaten from wild beasts, the picture is accompanied by a verse epigram referred to by the artist ‘Crateros’. In another room there is a mosaic with geometric shapes, while a third depicts the sacrifice of three animals, a bull, a ram and a boar. The excavations show that on the ruins was a Christian temple built after the Byzantium acne.
